In the spring of 2015, the life of 20-year-old Rhonda Davis was cut tragically short in a brutal murder that stunned the city of Detroit. Firefighters made a grim discovery on April 3rd, finding her dismembered and burned body inside her silver Plymouth Voyager van on the city's west side. The vehicle had been set ablaze, and the severity of the fire required authorities to use dental records to identify the young woman. An investigation quickly determined that she had been shot multiple times before her body was mutilated.
The investigation into the horrific crime led police to identify three suspects. Less than two weeks after the discovery of Davis's body, authorities announced the arrests of two men: 22-year-old Anthony Williams and 50-year-old Dwain Modley. A third suspect, 24-year-old Brandon Curtis Williams, remained at large. According to Davis's mother, her daughter had been involved with one of the suspects in custody and had been a victim of abuse in the relationship. The family also shared that Davis had been deeply affected by a previous wrongful conviction for armed robbery, which had led to a period of estrangement from her loved ones.
During court proceedings, disturbing details of Davis's final moments emerged. A witness, the ex-girlfriend of Brandon Williams' brother, testified to hearing a woman screaming, 'Please stop!' followed by gunshots. She also claimed to have witnessed Anthony Williams with a gun. Further testimony indicated that Modley was seen purchasing gasoline shortly before the van was set on fire. Anthony Williams was subsequently charged with several counts, including open murder, mutilation, and witness intimidation, while Dwain Modley faced charges including accessory after the fact. The search for the third suspect, Brandon Curtis Williams, continued as the other two men faced the legal consequences of their alleged involvement in the heinous crime.
