In the spring of 2015, the life of 22-year-old Davaunte O. Thompson, a Black/African American male from Flint, Michigan, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Saturday, April 25, 2015, Thompson was near the corner of Flint Park Boulevard and North Saginaw Street when he was shot multiple times. He was rushed to Hurley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
Davaunte, known to his loved ones as 'Tae,' was a loving son,
brother, and a proud father to three young daughters. Born in Flint on February 6, 1993, he attended Flint Northwestern High School and was employed at Red Lobster. He was remembered for his love of family, his sharp sense of style, and his ability to make people laugh with his jokes. He cherished spending time with his children, siblings, nieces, and nephews, and had a daily ritual of enjoying morning coffee with his mother.
The Flint Police Department opened an investigation into Thompson's homicide, which was one of many violent crimes that contributed to a surge in the city's homicide rate that year. In an effort to generate leads, Crime Stoppers of Flint & Genesee County offered a cash reward of up to $2,500 for any information that would lead to the arrest of those responsible for his death.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the plea for public assistance, no arrests have ever been made in connection with the murder of Davaunte Thompson. The case grew cold, leaving his family and community still searching for answers and justice for his untimely death. His case remains an unsolved homicide, a painful reminder of the gun violence that has impacted the city of Flint.
