On a tragic afternoon in Flint, Michigan, the life of 31-year-old Christopher Otto Jr. was cut short. On April 3, 2023, what began as a journey in a vehicle with an acquaintance turned into a fatal encounter. While on Interstate 75 near Miller Road in Flint Township, an altercation broke out between Otto and his companion. This dispute escalated to the point of lethal violence, resulting in Otto being shot multiple times.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Nicholas Hetzer, a
36-year-old man from Davison, continued to drive after the shooting. He eventually stopped in the 3600 block of Van Buren Avenue in Flint, where he removed Otto from the vehicle. When Michigan State Police and Flint Police responded to the scene shortly after 1 p.m., they discovered Christopher Otto Jr. deceased. Hetzer was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Following the investigation by the Flint Township Police Department, Nicholas Hetzer was charged with open murder, felony firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. The legal proceedings concluded on June 10, 2024, when Hetzer was sentenced for his role in the death of Christopher 'CJ' Otto Jr. He was ordered to serve 27 to 50 years in prison, bringing a measure of judicial closure to the family and friends of the victim who continue to mourn their loss.
