Jimmie Jack Allison, a 79-year-old male, was a longtime resident of Flint, Michigan, known and well-liked within his community. A 1953 graduate of Flint Central High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, he had retired from a career at Franchi Beer Distributor. His life was one filled with simple pleasures; he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and found joy in cooking, gardening, visiting garage sales, and, most importantly, spending cherished time with his family and friends.
His peaceful existence was tragically cut short on the night of Friday, August 8, 2014, in what authorities would describe as a robbery that took a violent turn.
On that fateful evening, three men forced their way into Allison's home on South Meade Street around 11:30 p.m. In the course of the home invasion, Jimmie Allison was shot and killed. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Based on witness statements gathered that same night, investigators were quickly able to identify and locate suspects. By the following morning, a Saturday, arrests had been made in connection with the case, bringing a small measure of relief to a grieving community.
Three young men, identified as Keanu Brown, Takais Brown, and Marquise Love, were taken into custody. They were subsequently arraigned on a string of serious charges, including felony murder, armed robbery, first-degree home invasion, and felony firearm. The charges reflected the violent nature of the crime and the tragic loss of a beloved elderly resident. The legal process that followed would be a lengthy one, with the accused remaining in custody as they awaited their day in court to answer for the death of Jimmie Allison.
After nearly two years of legal proceedings, the case against the three men, along with a fourth individual named Aurien Brown, came to a head in a jury trial. In a turn of events that may have been surprising to some, the jury returned a verdict in July 2016 that acquitted Keanu Brown, Takais Brown, and Marquise Love of the murder of Jimmie Allison. Aurien Brown was also acquitted of the murder charge but was convicted of armed robbery and home invasion for his role in the events of that night. Following the verdict, the three men who had been acquitted of murder were released from jail, having spent almost two years behind bars.
