Jamil Ahmad Kaine, a 24-year-old male of Lebanese heritage, was working at a store inside the Mass Transportation Authority bus station in downtown Flint, Michigan, on the afternoon of June 1, 2023. It was a day that began like any other but would end in a tragedy that cut short a promising young life. Kaine, a resident of Dearborn, was on the cusp of a new chapter, engaged to be married and preparing for his graduation.
His aspirations, however, were brought to an abrupt and violent end at approximately 12:16 p.m.
A man, later identified as 38-year-old Stand 'Face' Robinson, entered the store and allegedly shot Kaine. The attack appeared to be targeted, though the motive was not immediately clear. The sound of gunfire echoed through the station, alerting a nearby police officer who immediately gave chase. The suspect fled the scene, seeking refuge in a nearby church. Responding officers quickly converged on the area, finding Robinson hiding between cars. A firearm was recovered near the location of his arrest.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Stand Robinson was taken into custody and faced a string of serious charges. These included first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, and three counts of felony firearm. His legal situation was further complicated by his status as a fourth-offense habitual offender. While the legal process began for the alleged perpetrator, the community mourned the loss of a young man known for his bright future. A funeral service was held for Jamil Ahmad Kaine in his hometown of Dearborn, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory.
