Derick Roland Nelson, a 35-year-old event promoter from Detroit, Michigan, was tragically killed on May 9, 2015. Nelson, who was known for his positive impact on the community and his successful career in event planning, was shot in the back while getting out of his car and walking into his apartment on Detroit's west side.
