Pedro Lara, 21, male, was killed in the early-morning hours of October 5, 2025, after a van slammed into the fence outside his family’s home on the 3800 block of Bernal Drive in West Dallas. Lara and his father, 47-year-old Pedro Lara Roa, stepped outside to check on the crash and were shot; a third man was found fatally shot inside the crashed van. Police arrived just before 6 a.m. and discovered all three victims dead at the scene.
Detectives later alleged that the van’s driver was the target of a pursuit and that the Laras became casualties when they came out to help. License-plate-reader footage reportedly showed a Chevy Malibu following the van before the crash, and an arrest affidavit described how the Malibu left the scene and traveled toward Houston.
Within days, authorities arrested two suspects near Houston with assistance from Texas Department of Public Safety troopers. The men — identified as 28-year-old Jimy Caceres Leiva and 23-year-old Brayan Pineda Ayala — were taken into custody on October 14 and charged with capital murder of multiple persons; they were subsequently transferred to the Dallas County Jail. In post-arrest interviews described by reporters, one suspect allegedly said he supplied the guns and the other admitted to firing the shots. As of the latest reports, investigators have not publicly identified a motive.
Friends, family, and local outlets memorialized Lara in the days that followed, confirming his age and that he died in Dallas on October 5. Police urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continued, even after the arrests.
