In the late spring of 2015, the life of 17-year-old James Doshie Jr., a young man known for his love of basketball and a smile that could light up a room, was tragically cut short in Flint, Michigan. On the evening of May 22nd, a triple shooting occurred at the Park West Apartments, leaving Doshie and two others with gunshot wounds. While the other two victims survived, Doshie succumbed to his injuries five days later at Hurley Medical Center.
The investigation into the shooting led
authorities to two suspects: Jalen Krinner and Santino L. Jones. It was determined that a dispute, which began with a thrown drink, escalated to the fatal shooting. Witnesses reported seeing Krinner with a firearm, and Doshie himself, in his final moments, identified 'Jalen' as the person who had shot him. This crucial piece of information was relayed by Doshie's mother, who testified in court about her son's dying words.
Following their arrests, both Krinner and Jones faced legal proceedings. In December 2015, Santino L. Jones was convicted of three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, along with felony firearm charges. For his role in the incident, Jones was sentenced to a minimum of 11 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay over $7,000 in restitution.
Jalen Krinner, the man identified as the shooter, faced more severe charges. In April 2016, a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and felony firearm charges. Subsequently, Krinner was sentenced to serve 30 to 60 years in prison for the murder of James Doshie Jr., bringing a measure of closure to a case that began with a senseless act of violence and ended with the loss of a young life.
