On a Sunday afternoon in October 2015, 17-year-old Karlos Kelly was shot and killed in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The male teenager was at the Blossom Acres Apartment Complex where he had been playing basketball. An argument, reportedly over money, preceded the fatal encounter. Shortly after the dispute, a car approached and shots were fired, striking Kelly.
Three 18-year-old suspects were quickly identified in connection with the shooting: Anthony Walker, Seddrick Williams, and Daquantaries Williams. An investigation led to the arrest of Seddrick Williams shortly after the incident. He was identified as the driver of the vehicle used in the drive-by shooting. Daquantaries Williams was apprehended later, and the suspected shooter, Anthony Walker, was the last of the three to be taken into custody.
All three suspects faced charges for their roles in Karlos Kelly's death. Seddrick Williams and Daquantaries Williams eventually accepted plea deals. Seddrick Williams pleaded guilty to manslaughter, while Daquantaries Williams pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Anthony Walker, the alleged gunman, proceeded to trial where he was found guilty of first-degree murder and felony firearm charges. The convictions resulted in significant prison sentences for all three individuals. Daquantaries Williams was sentenced to 25 to 60 years in prison, Seddrick Williams received a sentence of four to 15 years, and Anthony Walker was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
