Kenneth Melvin Steil, a 46-year-old sergeant with the Detroit Police Department, tragically lost his life on September 17, 2016, due to complications from a gunshot wound sustained in the line of duty. On September 12, 2016, Steil was pursuing a suspect involved in a carjacking incident at a gas station near 7 Mile East and Hayes Street in Detroit.
