In the summer of 2017, a brave act to de-escalate a heated argument tragically cut short the life of Graciela Portillo-Esparza, a 31-year-old mother of four, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. On July 20th, at a mobile home park, Graciela stepped in to intervene in a dispute between her brother, Oscar Portillo, and a man named Zachary Patten.
