In a tragic turn of events on February 26, 2018, Kristen Thomas, a 21-year-old woman from Detroit, Michigan, was shot and killed while sitting in a car at a Sunoco gas station on the city's west side. Her death was part of a quadruple murder committed by George Anthony Davis Jr.
On that day, Thomas, who worked at a nearby McDonald's, needed a ride to work and flagged down Deacon Raphael Hall, who was with his daughter, Cierra Bargaineer. Thomas got into the car with Bargaineer.
Shortly after, Davis, who was the father of Bargaineer's child, confronted them at the gas station. Unable to accept the end of his relationship with Bargaineer, Davis opened fire, killing Bargaineer, her father who was pumping gas, and Thomas.
After the shooting at the gas station, Davis proceeded to a nearby home where he killed his cousin, Jaymon Thomas. Davis then fled to Ohio. His run from the law was short-lived, however, as he took his own life during a confrontation with police.
The investigation into the horrific events revealed that Davis had a lengthy criminal history, which included felony convictions for home invasion, receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, and multiple burglaries. Despite his past, there were reportedly no prior indications of domestic violence or threats made toward Cierra Bargaineer or her family. The case was closed following the death of the sole suspect, George Anthony Davis Jr., and as a result, no arrests were made or charges filed in court. The community and the families of the victims were left to mourn the senseless loss of four lives.
