On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2025, a tragic event unfolded on Detroit's west side, resulting in the death of 21-year-old LaTriece Galloway. An African American woman, Galloway was fatally shot inside a residence on Coyle Street, near Fenkell Avenue, in what authorities believe was a dispute that escalated to violence. The incident, which occurred at approximately 12:32 a.m., also claimed the life of 40-year-old Edward Clark, a close friend of Galloway.
Responding to reports of
gunfire, police discovered both Galloway and Clark in the basement of the home, each having sustained gunshot wounds. Emergency medical responders pronounced both victims dead at the scene. Investigations revealed that Galloway had been shot in the neck, while Clark suffered a wound to his chest. The weapon used in the double homicide was identified as a shotgun.
The suspect in the killings was quickly identified as 30-year-old Keith Alan Arrington Jr., who was known to both victims. In a sorrowful revelation, Clark's family disclosed that Arrington was a relative and that he had been struggling with mental illness, raising questions about his state of mind at the time of the shooting. Authorities have suggested that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Arrington and the two victims.
Keith Alan Arrington Jr. was taken into custody and formally charged on February 17, 2025. The charges against him are severe, including two counts of first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felony firearm. During his arraignment, he was denied bond and remanded to jail. His probable cause conference was scheduled for February 25, with a preliminary examination set for March 4. The case has deeply affected the community, leaving friends and family to mourn the senseless loss of two lives.
