On the morning of August 4, 2023, a day that should have marked a new chapter in her life, 35-year-old Andricka Sims-McIntosh was killed in Detroit, Michigan. She was scheduled to appear in court for a divorce proceeding, but tragically, she never made it. As she was leaving her home on Gunston Street, she was ambushed by her estranged husband, Breon McIntosh, who was also 35.
The situation escalated quickly as Andricka, a mother of seven who had also adopted her nephew, attempted to
flee from her estranged husband. She was reportedly chased down the street to a nearby construction site. Despite a 911 call being made as the events unfolded, and officers arriving promptly, it was too late. Breon McIntosh allegedly shot his wife multiple times. When police arrived, they found him standing over her body, holding a handgun.
Breon McIntosh was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He was subsequently charged with premeditated first-degree murder and felony firearm offenses. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office highlighted this case as a tragic example of domestic violence, noting that the most dangerous time for a victim is often when they are trying to leave the relationship.
Andricka was remembered by her family as a loving and good-hearted person who was a dedicated mother. Her sister stepped in to care for the eight children left without their parents due to this violent act. The community was left to mourn the loss of a woman whose life was cut short on the very day she was seeking to legally end her marriage.
