Benjamin Franklin Gray, a 50-year-old rancher from Montrose, Colorado, was last seen on the night of May 30, 1978. He left the Chipeta Bar and Café, where he rented the top floor, with a friend, Norman Ismay. The two were reportedly headed to Gray's family ranch in Gunnison County to lease some cattle. Ismay later claimed to have returned Gray to the Chipeta Bar around 4 a.m. on May 31, where he saw Gray enter the building.
