In the late hours of a February night in Southfield, Michigan, a tragic scene unfolded that ended the lives of two people recently unbound by marriage. Avery Brye, a 53-year-old male, was found deceased from a gunshot wound next to a vehicle at the Evergreen Meadows Apartment complex on February 27, 2018. The woman in the driver's seat, his 46-year-old ex-wife Dana Brye, was also found with fatal gunshot wounds.
The Southfield Police Department was called to the scene for a welfare check and discovered the devastating outcome of what they would later determine to be a murder-suicide.
The investigation into the deaths of the former couple revealed a grim sequence of events. Authorities concluded that Avery Brye had laid in wait, ambushing Dana as she approached her condominium. It appeared that Dana attempted to retreat to the safety of her car, but her ex-husband shot her multiple times before she could escape.
