In a tragic sequence of events that unfolded on a Friday night in Muskegon, Michigan, a domestic dispute escalated into a deadly shooting, claiming the life of 29-year-old Thomas 'Tommy' Davis. On the evening of April 13, 2018, Thomas and 28-year-old Brittany Sevrey were seated in a vehicle in a parking lot near 5th Street and West Western Avenue when they were ambushed. Both individuals, residents of Muskegon Township, sustained critical gunshot wounds.
First responders arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m. to find a grim situation. Brittany Sevrey was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries. Thomas Davis, a senior financial analyst at The Health Project, a community health benefit of Mercy Health, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on Saturday, April 14, 2018.
The investigation quickly identified the suspected shooter as 34-year-old Brandon Sevrey, Brittany's estranged husband. It is believed that the shooting was the tragic culmination of a domestic dispute. After the shooting, the search for Brandon Sevrey ended when his body was discovered in a wooded area behind the couple's home. Authorities from the Michigan State Police K9 units located him, and it was determined that he had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident was ultimately classified as a murder-suicide, with Brandon Sevrey acting alone in the killings of his wife and Thomas Davis before taking his own life. Consequently, there were no arrests or trials in connection with the deaths. The community was left to mourn the loss of two young lives, with friends and family of Thomas Davis remembering him as a cherished individual who was active in his community, serving as the Chair of the Finance Committee for Habitat for Humanity of Muskegon County.
