Minnie Edwards, a 67-year-old woman from Chatham, NC, tragically passed away on August 30, 2011. The circumstances surrounding her death were determined to be a murder-suicide. Authorities discovered that Minnie Edwards and her husband, Earl Lee Edwards, 65, were found dead in their home on Joe's Drive in northern Chatham County near Chapel Hill. According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, it appeared that Earl Edwards took his own life with a firearm after killing his wife.
The couple was last seen on Sunday afternoon at church, and family members became concerned when they went to visit them on Monday afternoon and received no response. Paramedics were called to the house and found Earl Edwards dead in a bedroom, while Minnie Edwards was found dead in another room. The bodies were later transported to UNC Hospitals for autopsies.
The investigation concluded that there was no reason to believe the case was anything other than a murder-suicide. The tragic incident left the community in shock and sorrow, as Minnie Edwards was remembered fondly by her family and friends.
