On a tragic Wednesday morning in Detroit, the life of 34-year-old Troy Sanford was cut short in a hail of bullets. The incident, which occurred on June 13, 2018, unfolded on the city's east side as Sanford was preparing to take three children to school. In what police described as an ambush, two gunmen dressed in black emerged from a vacant house across the street and opened fire on Sanford's minivan.

The violence also struck two of the children in the vehicle; a 10-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder, and a 14-year-old boy sustained injuries to his face from bullet fragments.
