In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 28, 2015, the life of 18-year-old Wilon Mccrae was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting on the streets of Detroit, Michigan. A senior at Dearborn High School, Mccrae was walking home at approximately 5 a.m. when he was confronted by two unknown men in the 500 block of St. Aubin, near Larned Street.
The young man, who had a passion for basketball and aspirations of a career in construction, found himself in a terrifying encounter that would end in his death.
The assailants' motive appeared to be robbery, as one of the men brandished a handgun and demanded Mccrae's money. In a desperate attempt to escape the dangerous situation, Mccrae tried to run away. However, his flight was cut short when he was shot by his attackers. The suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving the young man mortally wounded. Mccrae’s mother, who had worked diligently to provide a safe and protected life for him and his twin brother, was left to mourn the senseless loss of her son.
In the wake of the shooting, Detroit authorities launched an investigation and sought help from the public to identify the individuals responsible for Mccrae's death. Descriptions of the two suspects were released. The first was described as a Black male, between 25 and 30 years old, standing approximately 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing between 160 and 170 pounds. He was reportedly wearing a black Nike hoodie, black sweatpants, and black gym shoes, and was armed with a handgun. The second suspect was also a Black male, estimated to be between 24 and 27 years old, with a height of 5 feet 10 to 5 feet 11 inches and a weight of 170 to 185 pounds. He was wearing a black hoodie under a designer leather 'Pelle Pelle' style jacket. Crime Stoppers of Michigan offered a cash reward for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case. However, despite the efforts of law enforcement and the plea for public assistance, there have been no reports of any arrests made in connection with the murder of Wilon Mccrae. The case, it appears, remains unsolved, and the two suspects are still at large.
