Damond Carpenter, an 18-year-old student, was killed on December 22, 2017, in a drive-by shooting at the Eastland Court Apartments on Detroit's east side. Damond was home for the holidays from Western Michigan University, where he was majoring in engineering and was part of the cheerleading team.
