In the summer of 2018, the life of 22-year-old Aundre J. Sanders was tragically cut short in his hometown of Benton Harbor, Michigan. On the night of July 1st, what began as a party in the 1000 block of Lavette descended into violence that would leave a family grieving and a community searching for answers. As officers from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety were working to clear the large gathering, the sound of gunshots pierced the night air from the nearby 900 block of Lavette.
When the chaos subsided, Aundre J. Sanders was found the victim of a fatal shooting. In the aftermath of his death, investigators began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the young man's murder. The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety reached out to the public for assistance in what had become an unsolved homicide, seeking information that might lead to a break in the case.
In March of the following year, authorities publicly identified two individuals as persons of interest in the ongoing investigation. Witnesses placed Jamaal and William Roseburgh at the scene of the shooting, and detectives expressed a desire to speak with both men regarding the death of Aundre Sanders. The case, however, remained a painful open wound for his loved ones, including his young son, Avondre, who would pass away unexpectedly in 2020. The loss of Aundre, known affectionately as 'Tune,' was a profound tragedy that continued to reverberate through the lives of those who knew and loved him.
