In the quiet community of Spring Arbor, Michigan, a tragic event unfolded on October 20, 2018, claiming the life of 44-year-old Curtis Steven Sturgill. The incident, which occurred at a residence on Moscow Road in Spring Arbor Township, also resulted in the deaths of his mother, 60-year-old Katherine Sturgill, and her 61-year-old live-in boyfriend, Gregory Allen Heath.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered three individuals had been shot.
Curtis Sturgill and Gregory Heath were pronounced dead at the location. Katherine Sturgill was initially treated at the scene and then transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Health, where she was later pronounced dead.
Subsequent investigation by the Michigan State Police revealed a grim sequence of events. It was determined that Gregory Heath was responsible for the shootings. Authorities concluded that Heath shot and killed Curtis Sturgill and Katherine Sturgill before turning the gun on himself in a double murder-suicide. The motive for this violent act was believed to be connected to financial and domestic issues.
According to police, there had been no prior calls for any type of violence to the home. The investigation concluded that Gregory Heath acted alone in the incident. As a result, there were no other suspects, and no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Curtis and Katherine Sturgill.
