Amir Thaxton, a 41-year-old graphic artist from Detroit, Michigan, was tragically shot and killed on February 20, 2020. Thaxton was working late at his T-shirt shop, Next Level Custom Apparel, located on E. 8 Mile Road near Gratiot Avenue, when the incident occurred. Thaxton was known for his dedication to his work and his efforts to provide for his three children. His death shocked the community, leading to a vigil where friends and family released red balloons in his memory.
