Sir Spiller, 16, a Black male from Detroit, was killed in the early hours of Tuesday, May 23, 2023, after gunfire tore through a quiet stretch of the city near the 20000 block of Griggs Avenue, close to Wyoming Avenue and Outer Drive. Police were called out before 2:30 a.m. to what first read like another overnight shooting, but it quickly became clear the damage was deeper: one person lay dead at the scene, and another man—29 years old—had been hit as well and rushed to the hospital.
