In the early morning hours of July 12, 2021, a group of people in east Birmingham, Alabama, were on their way to work when their day was tragically cut short. An unknown individual approached the group in the 8500 block of 3rd Avenue North just after 4 a.m. and began shooting. The sudden violence left one man, 28-year-old Sergio Hernandez Leiva, dead at the scene.
