On July 12, 2021, 28-year-old Sergio Hernandez Leiva was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the 8500 block of 3rd Avenue North. According to the Birmingham Police Department, Leiva and several others were preparing to leave for work when an unknown individual approached and began firing. Leiva was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect fled on foot, and as of the latest reports, no arrests have been made.
