In the early morning hours of May 25, 2024, the community of Idlewild, Michigan, was disturbed by the sound of gunfire. Just after midnight, Lake County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the vicinity of Idlewild Lake following reports of shots being fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man lying unresponsive in the road. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Rashad Hawkins, a Black male from nearby Baldwin, who was pronounced deceased at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
