In the early morning hours of Memorial Day, May 30, 2022, the life of 19-year-old Marlon Tyree Bowman was tragically cut short in a mass shooting in his hometown of Benton Harbor, Michigan. The male victim was a recent graduate of Benton Harbor High School, having received his diploma in June 2021. He was known in his community as a positive and kind individual who was actively involved in his local church.
The incident unfolded around 2:19 a.m. in the 900 block of Pipestone Road, near Ajay's Lounge. In total, seven people were struck by gunfire. Bowman suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and was transported to Lakeland Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. At the time of his death, he was employed at Colson Group USA LLC and was taking college courses with the goal of transferring to Grand Valley State University. He also ran a small detailing business and had a passion for restoring homes.
Following the shooting, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety launched an investigation. Despite the large number of people present at the scene, authorities reported that no witnesses had come forward with information about the events leading up to the shooting. Investigators found multiple shell casings of various calibers in the area.
As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Marlon Tyree Bowman and the wounding of six others. The police have not publicly identified any suspects. A $2,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the person or persons responsible for the shooting.
