In the quiet community of Fort Gratiot, Michigan, the discovery of a young man's body on a cold February morning in 2019 marked the beginning of a lengthy investigation into a tragic and violent death. Kevin E. Anderson Jr., a 27-year-old Caucasian male, was found in a ditch along Keewahdin Road on February 10, 2019. What was initially reported as a pedestrian traffic incident soon revealed a more sinister truth.
Upon investigation, law enforcement determined that Anderson had not been
struck by a vehicle, but had instead suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The evidence suggested that he had been shot at the roadside and his body was subsequently moved into the nearby ditch. The investigation that followed would span over a year, as detectives pieced together the events leading to Anderson's untimely death. It was believed that the homicide may have been connected to a drug transaction.
More than a year later, in May of 2020, a breakthrough in the case came with the arrest of 23-year-old Josiah David Lopiccolo of Casco Township. Lopiccolo was taken into custody and faced a series of grave charges, including open murder, felony firearms, and tampering with evidence in connection with Kevin Anderson Jr.'s death.
The legal proceedings that followed brought some measure of closure to Anderson's family and the community. In June 2021, Josiah David Lopiccolo pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder. This plea marked the culmination of a thorough and persistent investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, ultimately holding Lopiccolo accountable for his role in the death of Kevin Anderson Jr.
