In the early morning hours of September 8, 2019, Jeffrey Matthews, a 60-year-old male resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was fatally shot on the northeast side of the city. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the Creston Plaza Apartments on Clancy Avenue NE, close to Cedar Street NE, where a large crowd had gathered. Authorities and family members believe Matthews was an innocent bystander, tragically caught in the crossfire of a shooting where he was not the intended target.
