In a tragic turn of events in a Redford Township home, a violent argument escalated into a double homicide, claiming the life of 49-year-old Dania Phillips and a young woman. The incident, which unfolded on a December night, stemmed from a dispute with a man who was a close friend of the family and had been staying with them.
The confrontation began inside the residence on Mercedes Street.
As the argument intensified, two teenagers, including 18-year-old Lysa Blake, came upstairs from the basement to intervene. In a sudden burst of violence, the man allegedly shot and killed Blake. Following the initial shooting, Dania Phillips fled from the house, but the assailant chased after her and fatally shot her as well. The horrific events were witnessed by Phillips's 16-year-old daughter. A 4-year-old boy was also present in the home at the time but was unharmed.
Following the deadly shootings, a manhunt for the suspect ensued. Law enforcement tracked the man to Detroit's east side later that same day. When confronted by police officers, the suspect reportedly opened fire on them. The officers returned fire, killing the man who was believed to be responsible for the double homicide in Redford Township. The suspect's death in the shootout with police brought an end to the immediate search for the person authorities said was behind the killings of Dania Phillips and Lysa Blake.
