On a summer night in Battle Creek, Michigan, a joyous gathering turned into a scene of tragedy, forever altering the lives of two families. In the early hours of June 16, 2020, 23-year-old Diamond King was at an outdoor party on West Rittenhouse Avenue, a celebration meant to honor the memory of a friend who had been killed the previous year. The large crowd, estimated to be between 200 and 300 people, was suddenly pierced by the sound of gunfire, creating chaos and panic.
