On June 17, 2023, 28-year-old Arely Mejia-Hernandez was found fatally shot in her vehicle near Riverside Park in Battle Creek, Michigan. Officers in the vicinity heard gunshots around 1:20 a.m. and discovered her car in the tree line at the park's edge. Despite immediate medical attention, Mejia-Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.
