In the early morning hours of October 24, 2020, the life of 24-year-old Elijah Boyd, a Black male from Benton-Harbor, Michigan, was tragically cut short. Responding to reports of gunfire around 2:30 a.m., officers from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety arrived in the 500 block of Catalpa Avenue to find Boyd suffering from severe injuries. He was rushed to Spectrum Health Lakeland hospital in St.
Joseph, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Elijah, born on November 26, 1995, in Saint Joseph, Michigan, was known by his loved ones for his intelligence and creativity. A graduate of Benton Harbor High School's class of 2013, he worked as a pharmacy technician at Walgreens. His passions included reading, singing karaoke, skating, and anime. At the time of his death, he was actively pursuing a personal project, writing and illustrating his very own anime book. His family remembered him as a happy baby who grew into a brilliant young man.
The investigation into Elijah Boyd's death was immediately classified as a homicide. Authorities urged the public to come forward with any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible. Despite their pleas for assistance and the ongoing investigation, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The case remains an open and active investigation as his family and community continue to await justice.
