Jennifer R. Filbeck, a 51-year-old Caucasian woman, and her husband, David H. Filbeck, 53, were found deceased in their Applegate, Michigan, home on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Deputies from the Sanilac County Sheriff's Department discovered the couple after being dispatched to their residence on Suerwier Road just before 11 a.m. The investigation revealed that both Jennifer and her husband died from gunshot wounds.
It is believed that the same firearm, a handgun, was used in both deaths.
Authorities stated that they were not seeking any suspects in connection with the deaths, believing that no one outside the household was involved. While the deaths were attributed to gun violence, the specific circumstances of how the gunshot wounds were inflicted remained unclear pending autopsy results. The case has since been closed by the sheriff's department, prosecutor's office, and the medical examiner's office, with the sheriff stating, 'I think it's something nobody will ever know. What happened here was a tragedy.'
Jennifer was born on May 22, 1969, in Sandusky, Michigan. She and David were married on April 24, 1993, in Lexington. Friends and family described them as a couple who enjoyed a simple, quiet life and cherished spending time outdoors, having bonfires, and sharing moments with loved ones. They were also known for their love of collecting various items, including classic metal signs, antiques, and family heirlooms. No arrests were made in the case.
