While behind the wheel of her vehicle, with her 10-year-old son, Malik, as her passenger, a black Chrysler 300 with tinted windows menacingly pulled up behind them. Four armed men emerged from the vehicle and, without any apparent warning, opened fire on Corbin's car. Multiple shots were fired, striking both ReKeyia and her young son. The assailants then quickly got back into their car and fled the scene, leaving behind a scene of chaos and heartbreak.
The hail of bullets proved fatal for ReKeyia Corbin, who tragically succumbed to her injuries. Her son, Malik, who had to witness the horrific murder of his mother, was also wounded in the shooting, sustaining injuries to both of his legs. He was rushed to a nearby children's hospital for treatment. In the days that followed, as the family grappled with their immense loss, Malik was eventually discharged from the hospital to begin the long and difficult process of healing, both physically and emotionally, from the traumatic event.
