The tragedy unfolded in the early morning hours of a Sunday in late December 2012, when Detroit police responded to a 911 call from the family's apartment on the city's near east side.
Upon arrival, they discovered the young girl unresponsive on the floor, having sustained a fatal stab wound to her chest. Tameria was rushed to a local hospital but was tragically pronounced dead on arrival.
The investigation into the little girl's death quickly focused on a suspect distressingly close to her. Her mother, 26-year-old Semeria Greene, was taken into custody and subsequently charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse. The case against her was bolstered by the heartbreaking testimony of Tameria's 4-year-old brother, who told authorities at a child advocacy center that he had witnessed his mother with a 'big knife' and that she had 'cut his sister.'
