In the early hours of a Tuesday in Jackson, Michigan, the life of 53-year-old Rodney Gene Reynolds was brought to a tragic and violent end. On the morning of February 16, 2021, gunshots echoed near Cascades Park, a well-known local landmark. When police responded to reports of shots fired at Sparks Park, they discovered Reynolds on the ground on the south side of Randolph Street. He had sustained multiple bullet wounds to his head, torso, and leg.
Emergency services transported him to Henry Ford Allegiance Health, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to a suspect. A witness at the scene provided a description of a woman seen walking away from the area where the incident occurred. Law enforcement officers were able to track down a woman matching the description in the 1900 block of West High Street, not far from the scene of the crime. The woman, identified as 29-year-old Antrana Ladell Brown of Jackson, was found to be in possession of a handgun. She was taken into custody without incident.
Following her arrest, Antrana Ladell Brown was charged in connection with the death of Rodney Gene Reynolds. She was arraigned on charges of open murder and felony firearm. According to the prosecuting attorney, there was no known prior relationship between Brown and Reynolds. The attack appeared to be a random act of violence. Reynolds, a lifelong resident of Jackson, was remembered as a compassionate man who had dedicated over thirty years of his life to caring for the mentally ill through his work with Christ Centered Homes. He was also a producer of hip-hop and rap music and a beloved family man, survived by his wife and several children and stepchildren.
