On April 9, 2021, a violent tragedy unfolded in Grand Rapids, Michigan, claiming the life of Nicholas Stephan Purnell, a 28-year-old Black male. The incident occurred on a Friday morning at the Stuyvesant Apartments, a residential building located on Madison Avenue SE near the intersection with Cherry Street.
