In the early morning hours of June 21, 2021, the life of 31-year-old Devonte Dequan-Marsuan Pitts-Davis was tragically cut short in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. A Black/African American male known affectionately to friends and family as 'Vonnie' or 'Dee,' Pitts-Davis was remembered for a vibrant personality and deep dimples that could light up any room.
He was a dedicated employee with the City of Flint Street Maintenance Department and had a love for cars and unique fashion.
The fatal incident unfolded outside of Vibez Club on North Saginaw Street, where an altercation led to Pitts-Davis suffering a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate response of medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Flint community was left to mourn the loss of a man described as a dedicated and loving individual. His funeral services were held on July 2, 2021, at Spirit of Victory Outreach Ministries, where a large gathering of family and friends paid their respects.
In the wake of the shooting, the police investigation moved swiftly, and a suspect was taken into custody shortly after the event. The individual, whose identity was not immediately released in initial reports, was later sentenced in connection with the fatal shooting. The death of Devonte Pitts-Davis highlighted the ongoing concerns about gun violence within the Flint community and the profound impact such acts have on the victim's loved ones and the city as a whole.
