In the early morning hours of July 5, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn stillness at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and St. Joseph Street in Lansing, Michigan. Inside one of the vehicles caught in the chaos was 19-year-old Cashad Jerry-Jaheim Pops. Occupants of multiple other vehicles opened fire on the car he was in, striking the young man.
He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries two days later on July 7, 2021, with his loved ones by his side.
Known affectionately as 'Danky' to his family, Cashad was born on April 4, 2002. He was a father to two young daughters, Calaysia and Sa'Riyah, and was remembered for his love of outdoor activities like fishing and basketball. His family described him as someone who valued them above all else and had an insatiable thirst for fun and adventure.
The investigation into Cashad's death remains ongoing, and it is considered a cold case by the Lansing Police Department. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the fatal shooting. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for his murder, offering a potential reward for tips that could help solve the case.
