In the early morning hours of Valentine's Day in 2022, a domestic dispute in a south side Lansing, Michigan neighborhood turned fatal, claiming the life of 43-year-old Arthur Artavius Newcombe. The incident unfolded around 8 a.m. inside a residence in the 2000 block of Teel Avenue. When police initially responded, they were directed to a different location, the 100 block of Mount Hope Avenue, where they discovered Newcombe suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported
him to a local hospital for treatment, but his injury proved too severe, and he succumbed to the wound shortly after arrival. As the investigation into the shooting began, detectives determined that the fatal shot had been fired back at the Teel Avenue home. A 42-year-old woman who was present at the scene was taken into custody in connection with the death.
The woman was initially held at the city lockup, but she was released the following day as the investigation continued. The Lansing Police Department, in conjunction with the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office, thoroughly reviewed the case. After considering all the evidence gathered, the prosecutor's office made the decision not to file any criminal charges against the woman who had been arrested. Authorities concluded that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a criminal case against her, and she was cleared of any wrongdoing in the death of Arthur Newcombe.
