A simmering argument that began inside a Lansing party store tragically escalated to deadly violence on a Thursday night, leaving a 30-year-old man dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, Willie Calvin Williamson, a male, was shot and killed on February 23, 2017, outside McNamara’s Party Store at the corner of Baker Street and Lyons Avenue. When police arrived, they discovered Williamson unresponsive.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Williamson's death quickly pointed to a suspect who was believed to have known the victim. The altercation that started within the store spilled out into the street, where the fatal shots were fired. Police identified the suspect as a light-skinned Black male, estimated to be between 25 and 40 years old with a thick mustache and wearing blue jeans. This description, along with further investigation, led authorities to Dmarco Dangelo Leneal Brewer.
Brewer was arrested and stood trial for the murder of Willie Calvin Williamson. In November 2017, a jury in Ingham County found Dmarco Dangelo Leneal Brewer guilty of first-degree premeditated murder. The conviction carried a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. In addition to the murder charge, Brewer was also convicted of carrying a concealed weapon and a felony firearm charge, adding to his prison term.
