Russ was on his first day working as a DoorDash driver, a job he had taken to make ends meet, when the fatal shooting took place at the Clement Kern Gardens Apartments on Bagley Street.
According to reports, Russ was with a family member and had just gotten out of his car to deliver a KFC order to a
customer when a vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire. He was initially shot once in the foot. The vehicle then circled the block, returned to the scene, and multiple more shots were fired, fatally wounding Russ as he tried to take cover. Police believe that because the shooter came back a second time, Russ was targeted, although the motive remains unclear.
The family of Dajour Russ, including his mother, Tolanda Russ, and his uncle, comedian James Jackson, known as 'Jack Funny 313,' have been left devastated by his death. They remember him as a loving, genuine, and humble young man who was a father figure to his younger siblings. His mother has been a vocal advocate for justice for her son, expressing the daily pain of her loss and her hope that the person responsible will be caught.
