In the early morning hours of September 17, 2022, the city of Kalamazoo, Michigan, became the scene of a violent tragedy that claimed the life of 30-year-old Black male Demetrius Marcellus Finley. Officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to reports of a shooting, arriving to find Finley suffering from severe injuries sustained during the incident.
