In the early morning hours of July 5, 2025, Leetrail Lamont Bible, a 34-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Paterson Street, where a large crowd of hundreds had gathered. Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were already in the area monitoring the gathering when they heard gunfire and responded immediately.
Upon their arrival at the chaotic scene, officers found Bible with a
gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Two other men, aged 29 and 23, also sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their legs during the incident. Investigators recovered at least one firearm at the scene and believe that multiple weapons were discharged.
The shooting that claimed Leetrail Lamont Bible's life was part of a string of violence in Kalamazoo over the holiday weekend, which saw a total of four separate shooting incidents between the late hours of July 4th and the early morning of July 5th, resulting in a total of seven injuries and Bible's death.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is actively investigating the homicide and has urged the public for assistance. They have emphasized that with such a large number of people present at the time of the shooting, it is likely that there are witnesses who have valuable information, photos, or videos that could help identify the person or persons responsible. While police have executed search warrants in connection with the series of holiday weekend shootings and made arrests on unrelated weapons charges, no suspect has been publicly identified or arrested specifically for the murder of Leetrail Lamont Bible. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek justice for him and his family.
