On October 6, 2022, Scottie Ray Benson Jr., a 31-year-old Black male, lost his life to gun violence in the city of Detroit, Michigan. He was a resident of the area, and his sudden passing added his name to the lists of those memorialized for falling victim to lethal force in the community. Friends, family, and community members later gathered online and in person to pay their respects, lighting candles and sharing memories of a life cut short in its fourth decade.
