In the quiet town of Baldwin, Michigan, a young life was tragically cut short on a Monday evening in October. Dylan Daniel, a 21-year-old male, was at a residence on Harvard Street in Webber Township on October 17, 2022, when violence erupted. Lake County deputies responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 10:05 p.m. and discovered a grim scene.
Daniel had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the suspicious death quickly focused on a local resident, 62-year-old Danny Kehm McCarthy. McCarthy was initially taken into custody on charges unrelated to the shooting. However, his connection to Daniel's death soon became clear. By October 20, 2022, McCarthy was arraigned on multiple charges, including open murder, felony firearm, and two counts of resisting and obstructing an officer.
As the legal process unfolded, McCarthy eventually entered into a plea agreement. On July 19, 2023, he pleaded no contest to the charge of second-degree murder. On September 5, 2023, Danny Kehm McCarthy was sentenced for the death of Dylan Daniel. A judge in the Lake County Trial Court handed down a sentence of 13 to 30 years in prison.
