On a tragic night in Detroit, a simple act of courtesy turned deadly, claiming the life of 29-year-old Ariel Harris. The father of two young boys was shot and killed following a dispute over an elevator in the Greektown district of the city. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, unfolded in the early morning hours of November 27, 2022, inside the International Banquet Center.
According to his family, Harris was attempting to let a group of women enter an elevator
ahead of him when another man became agitated by the delay. An argument ensued, escalating with horrifying speed when the angered individual produced a firearm and shot Harris. The sudden violence left those present in a state of panic and disbelief. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Harris was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, his injuries proved to be fatal.
In the wake of the senseless killing, the Detroit Police Department launched an intensive investigation. They released surveillance footage of the person of interest and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to his whereabouts. The plea from Harris's grieving family, particularly his mother's heartfelt message to the suspect's own mother, resonated widely, urging the perpetrator to turn himself in.

On December 6, 2022, the man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting was apprehended in Ohio. Detroit Police confirmed the arrest and announced that the suspect would be extradited back to Michigan to be formally charged in the death of Ariel Harris.
