On July 11, 2023, 18-year-old Khalil Amari Allen was fatally shot near the intersection of West McNichols Road and the Southfield Freeway on Detroit's northwest side. Allen was driving a burgundy Jeep to pick up food from a nearby restaurant when a gray Jeep pulled alongside his vehicle. Occupants of the gray Jeep opened fire, striking Allen multiple times. The assailants then fled eastbound on McNichols.
